Art for Saturday & Bjork for Sunday

Yesterday was spent making ridiculous/fantastic art at the Artstation Youth Art Committee's All of a Heap show. A bunch of art lovers got involved and helped the YAC crew celebrate the opening of their new exhibition space Side Way which faces Ponsonby Road. Each of us were given restrictions (i.e. two of us tied together, making art behind our backs or making art blindfolded) and encouraged to let go of our inner critic and embrace an experimental art making approach. The art was installed in the Side Way space later in the evening whilst we ate chocolate and rocky road cake and listened to some crazily talented young musicians. I'm hoping to get some pictures soon :)

Today I'm feeling bjork and sunshine in the process of beginning a couple of new projects.

Willowships - Under debut video

If you, like me, haven't had enough of Chelsea Jade & Watercolours here are some stills from the Under music video. Seriously recommend checking it out here. It's directed by Reuben Stephens & Chelsea Jade and features clothing from Madame Hawke, Ruby, Sherie Muijus, and Juliette Hogan. Can't really get much better in my opinion x Live version two posts down...or here :)

Sunday bests

I'm a little obsessed with this Joon & Jung Pillow Blanket. I hope to own it one day when I live in my loft apartment with 3/4 walls, huge windows and cold floors. It would be perfect for Sunday afternoon naps in the sun :)

And here's a tune for Sunday too. I've never heard of Miami Horror before and don't particularly like their other songs but this one is nice for Sunday :) I sense a bit of m83 influence creeping into it as well which makes it ten billion times better than their other tunes. I love Sundays :)

Q Theatre - The new kid on the block

Slideshow v2 (24MB) MP4 from Q theatre on Vimeo.

Q, Auckland from Q theatre on Vimeo.

Yesterday I went to Q Theatre's Open Day and got a tour from the Big Cheese through the rehearsal space, storage rooms, theatre spaces (plural!), green rooms, bar, and cafe. I have been so excited about the opening of this new performance space and it is definitely worth the wait. The architecture (by Cheshire architects) is stunning and I'm not sure that any of the photos/videos do it justice so I urge you to check it out. There is far too much architecture/design speak I could ramble on and rave about.

They also have the most amazing chocolate cake with a berry/cream filling. And better yet they were so eager to please on their open day that when one of the waitors cut a "messy piece" (manager's words not mine) they gave us two instead! The cafe is open at normal cafe hours and is a couple of steps up from Uni so I'm sure I'm about to start a new bad habit. Currently looking at the upcoming shows to book my next theatre visit.

todd selby x mitch alfus x leather king

A little while ago Todd Selby took a new approach to his work and started making mini documentary films of his subjects. This one is by far my favourite. It's sort of a day in the life of Mitch Alfus, and the Selby makes it look like a dream. I totally recommend taking some time out to watch this, but I do mean stop, sit down and relax, because if you're like me you'll have trouble watching it only once. xo

breakfast

This was my breakfast this morning, eaten very slowly in order to procrastinate doing an assignment which is due in...two days, ah. It's pretty cold in NZ and yesterday it snowed at least a little bit in most places. Except at my house which was borderline hot because the sun shon on it all afternoon, so I don't know what other silly aucklander's were talking about "its snowing in auckland!" my butt.

I've been so tempted to paint these teacups (which are huge!) but they were my great aunts so perhaps that would be rude? Oo I also found a cute video made by someone in Wellington who had actual snow... yay x
